lsha M. Renta Lopez was born and raised in Ponce, Puerto Rico, where the scenes of her first children’s book, Sofia y su Tambor, take place. lsha is a meteorologist, a scientist who studies weather and climate conditions, and a practitioner of bomba. Bomba is a music and dance style that originated in Puerto Rico. She has studied with the best bomba teachers and is the founder and director of Semilla Cultural, a nonprofit organization that teaches about and present all aspects of bomba to groups in Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, DC. Her passion for bomba inspires her to continue merging her skills, and she hopes to write a series of educational books on Puerto Rican bomba and Earth science.
