Jie Qi has two missions: one, combining art with engineering to create experiences of wonder, and two, empowering creators of all backgrounds to make their own expressive and personally meaningful technologies. While earning her Ph.D. in media arts and sciences from the MIT Media Lab, Jie focused on paper circuits, knowing that their flexibility could help make coding and circuitry more accessible for everyone. With the help of some friends, Jie founded Chibitronics, a company producing creative learning toolkits for paper circuits. Just like a box of crayons, Chibitronics’ easy-to-learn, easy-to-use toolkits ensure that it doesn’t take an engineering degree to start innovating.
