The Changemaker Pledge

There will not be a magic day when we wake up and it’s now okay to express ourselves publicly. We make that day by doing things publicly until it’s simply the way things are.

Sen. Tammy Baldwin

Like water after you throw a stone, small actions you take can ripple through those around you. One person’s actions influence their friends and family, who then inspire the entire community to speak up. Like-minded communities can come together to change our entire society.

Small changes can have big impact on the world: check it out!

Anyone – even kids! – can make the world a better place by taking action and expressing their ideas to those around them. How will you make the world a better place?

Consider how you want to change the world, and make a pledge to spark change in your school, family, or community and create a project that shares that promise with others.

Ask yourself these questions to create your pledge:

  1. What are you not okay with?
  2. What do you have?
  3. What can we do about it?

Once your changemaker pledge is written, use your maker skills to create something that will help you share your pledge with your friends, family, and community. You could make posters, flyers, a video, or a digital animation to share your ideas.

If you’re interested in creating a digital animation, consider using Scratch, a free block programming language you can use online. Check out these videos to help you get started:
